A founding institution in one of Australia's most treasured heritage precincts, the University of Notre Dame Australia's Fremantle campus has long been woven into the fabric of the historic West End. The redevelopment of its Student Hub represents the university's most significant investment in student facilities to date, transforming a traditional library into the vibrant, connected heart of campus life.
Designed by Hames Sharley and delivered by Swan Group, the staged refurbishment reimagined five buildings including St Teresa's Library, Bateman Courtyard and Craven Law Library into a cohesive precinct for study, collaboration and community, all while the campus remained fully operational throughout construction. The result has been recognised with multiple honours, including Category Winner for Modernisation at the 2026 Learning Environments Australasia Design Awards and two 2026 AIA WA Chapter Awards for Educational and Interior Architecture.
Criterion Industries was proud to support the delivery of this landmark project, supplying Barwon Slimline Aluminium Doors and Svelte 75 Partitioning to help balance the demands of a heritage-sensitive refurbishment with the clean, contemporary functionality required of a modern learning environment.
