Officially opened in June 2026, the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD) is Australia's first hospital-based biomedical engineering research centre. Located on the St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne campus in Fitzroy, on the corner of Victoria Parade and Nicholson Street, the 11-level building replaces the former Aikenhead Wing, once home to the hospital's trainee nurses, and forms a key part of Melbourne's growing biomedical precinct.
Bringing clinicians, engineers and researchers together under one roof, with capacity for up to 900 researchers, the centre is designed to move new medical technologies from the lab to the patient's bedside faster. Delivered by McCormack, designed by Studio 103 and built in collaboration with Eco Building Projects, the Level 7 workplace fit-out gives the centre's teams the work, meeting and collaboration spaces that support this research.
Criterion Industries was proud to support the delivery of ACMD's Level 7 workplace, supplying Platinum 90 partitioning, Aurora aluminium doors, timber doors and aluminium skirting. Together these helped create the light-filled, clearly defined rooms, durable openings and clean, consistent detailing a busy research workplace within a working hospital relies on.
