Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre

The impressive Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, winner of the Victorian Medal at the 2017 Victorian Architecture Awards.

The Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) is a $1 billion world-class facility completed in 2016. It is the first ever, purpose-built comprehensive cancer centre and was the winner of the Victorian Medal and the William Wardell Award for Public Architecture at the 2017 Victorian Architecture Awards.

The VCCC provides over 90,000 sqm of purpose-built facilities including 160 overnight inpatient beds; 42 bed intensive care unit; 110 chemotherapy, medical and surgical same-day beds and chairs; dedicated clinical trial unit; eight medi-hotel overnight family beds; 25,000 sqm of specialised research facilities for up to 1,300 researchers, eight operating theatres, two procedure rooms, eight radiation therapy bunkers and 47 meeting rooms and a large lecture theatre.

Gold Coast University Hospital

The Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) is an award-winning world-class facility sitting in parkland, incorporated into the hospital precinct to offer passive healing for patients and visitors.

Opening in September 2013, GCUH is a purpose-built 175,000sqm facility comprising an integrated Clinical Services Building, 50 bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Paediatric Ambulatory Care Services, Intensive Care and Surgical Services, Pathology and Education building, 72 bed Mental Health unit, Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre and a Retail Precinct.

‘Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) is set to change any preconception you might have of a hospital – it is not plain white, it is not stark; GCUH is a modern workplace for staff and will act as a home away from home for many of its patients’

Designed by Silver Thomas Hanley, PDT Architects and Hassell, the design utilised Criterion’s signature partition system Platinum 90 and Platinum 120 throughout the design.

In choosing the Platinum 120 Suite, the architects considered the high-traffic environment and the need for the door and window frames to sustain the hospital’s hustle and bustle.

Not only is the Platinum 120 suited because of the need for something heavy-duty, a modern and comfortable atmosphere has certainly been achieved and has set new levels for hospital environments.

The Platinum 120 Aluminium suite was specified and has been installed for internal glazing and door jambs throughout the hospital for;

  • Office & administration areas
  • Intensive care units
  • Surgical and operation theatres
  • Visitor waiting areas
  • Patient wards
  • X-ray rooms
